An $88m high school upgrade delivered for School Infrastructure NSW through MBB Group as client-side PM consultancy. The project ran on an operating campus and combined major new build works with staged decommissioning of existing facilities — a typical SINSW capital works pattern that prizes risk management and stakeholder communication over schedule heroics.
Key challenges
The work spanned demountable removals and classroom relocations that had to land cleanly inside school holiday windows. Each move had to be planned weeks in advance, with the PMG, TSG and PCG meetings used to align the school, the SINSW project team, the head contractor and subcontractors on sequencing and contingency.
Adverse site conditions surfaced periodically — asbestos finds being the most material — and were managed through subcontractor coordination and tight risk reporting to keep the programme tracking.
More details
Stakeholders included the school principal, SINSW project team, the head contractor, multiple subcontractors and design consultants. Conflict resolution between stakeholders and contractors was a recurring task — escalations that could have delayed the programme or added cost were resolved at PCG level where possible.
